Background in Management and Human Resources

Petra is a graduate of the Hotel Management School Leeuwarden and embarked on her career initially as assistant manager at the PMT (Protestant Military Home). In 1998 she switched jobs and became department head at the Makro Wholesale Stores. 2001 was the year in which her career changed tack to Human Resource Management and she was appointed senior intermediary at Randstad temporary employment agencies. During this period she also set up two successful businesses. In this period, she experienced that it is certainly possible for women with a family and a household to hold an executive position in the corporate world or run a successful business at the same time.

Focus on women entrepreneurs and managers

In 2007 Petra van der Veen embarked on a new business concept: The WE Company. The WE Company was established to show people that everything they need to be successful is already present. All you need to do is to bring it out. The main focus at The WE Company is on women in management positions and female independent entrepreneurs. In order to increase the level of participation of women in top positions, a change will have to be triggered - not only in thought patterns but also in corporate culture. The WE Company aims to contribute to this by offering seminars, training programs, coaching programs and lectures.

This year, Petra’s book “Women at the top, this book will change your life (style)” will be released. This book takes the lives of women who have fought to realize their dreams and ideals as examples. These stories are compiled from the lives of women across the globe in a wide range of different situations. The book also presents practical tips for personal development. In addition, it is an absolute must-have for women aiming to start their own business.

Petra is also frequently asked to be a keynote speaker. The most important theme she addresses is “Everything you need to be successful is already inside you; all you need to do is to bring it out”.
